Overwood Quarry
Sandstone was quarried locally from the Overwood .
Sandstone within the Lower Coal Measures above the Drumgray Seams at Overwood Quarries between the Cander Burn and Carlisle Road.
A local newspaper in 1883 reports that a quarryman Thomas Blakely was killed at Merwood Quarry however this is Overwood Quarry. A number of deaths or accidents at the quarry were recorded.
